About Me

I am a recovering academic – a medieval historian who, after various adventures on the tenure track (at Rural Utopia and Small Urban), decided to leave academia. I graduated from law school in May 2011, took the bar, and moved to one clerkship hallway in September 2011 (in Beloved City). In August 2012, I moved for another clerkship (to Elsewhere). I will find myself in another new hallway sometime in August or September 2013, too; let’s hope I can stay there for a while!

I’m married to another former academic, currently known as LDH (Long Distance Husband); we live on the Island of Misfit toys, because we have two cats, one who is blind and one who only has three legs. We spoil them rotten.

I’m Nobody! Who are you?
Are you—Nobody—Too?
Then there’s a pair of us!
Don’t tell! they’d advertise—you know!

How dreary—to be—Somebody!
How public—like a Frog—
To tell one’s name—the livelong June—
To an admiring Bog!

Emily Dickinson

I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
I feel my fate in what I cannot fear.
I learn by going where I have to go.
Theodore Roethke

Freedom is what you do with what’s been done to you.
— Jean-Paul Sartre
